Mission Editor / Map making

Stupid question here from a stoopid guy........ In the game installation readme pdf Manual it says to bring up the mission editor by hitting Ctrl+E..... I can hit Ctrl+E all day until the cows come home & I still don't get no stinking mission editor.... Is it me, or just my choice of underarm deodorant? I've looked all around in the game/settings for it & I can't find it........ Is it now a .exe in one of the subdirectories?

I want to start editing maps or mission files or all that it involves so that I can add bot nav routes etc for CTF maps using Roboto's guide.

Thanks in advance !!! πŸ˜‰

  • Alt+E is the binding, I think Ctrl+E was too close to bindings you'd actually be using while playing (Ctrl+W, Ctrl+F, etc), so would've been disruptive if you accidentally hit it.

I'm not sure if the guide you're following mentions this, but certain editor actions can cause crashes if performed while the game is running; for example you will find an option to rebuild the graph within the editor, but I would advise before you experiment with this, you should save your changes to the map. While this live edit rebuilding of the nav graph does work in best case scenarios, if it fails, the game will most likely crash and potentially lose your work.

To do a safer offline build of the navigation graph, you can run Tribes2.exe -navBuild mission_name mission_type where mission_name is the base filename of your map (the "Katabatic" of "Katabatic.mis"), and mission_type is the gamemode you're building for, e.g. CTF.

I'd also suggest opening up your .mis file (and a few others) in notepad βˆ’ or any code editor you might have βˆ’ if only to get an idea of how the objects in the maps should be organized. Generally what's saved from within the editor is going to be fine, but there are cases where you might need to remove/reorganize or alter things by hand.

  • Wow..... Thanks Krash !!!! You are a Gold Mine of information 😊
